Using St. Johns Wort for Burn Healing Many of us take St. John's wort regularly, either to help us to have mental clarity or perhaps overcome depression. It might come as a surprise to you, however, that St. John's wort can also have some topical benefits whenever we have various problems as well. A good example of this is if we burn ourselves, and using a compress of St. John's wort oil can assist in overcoming the burn and any associated difficulties that may go along with it. It can also be taken internally during that time, as we will discuss further in this article. Perhaps one of the most important things for you to do is to assess the situation properly and to find out if you have a simple burn or if you have a more severe burn that would require medical attention. If the area is simply a little bit red, it is what is typically known as a first degree burn but if blisters are appearing, it is probably a second degree burn. If the area appears charred in any way, or if the pain sticks around for an extended period of time, you should seek medical attention and not apply any type of compress to the area. If you happen to have some St. John's wort oil around, you can apply this to a small bandage and put it directly on the area, affixing it in place with non-stick tape. This will help to give a little bit of soothing relief immediately, and it will help to pull any infection out of the area, as infection is a common problem whenever we have burns. Continue to switch the bandage several times throughout the day, and make sure that you are not touching the area of the burn if at all possible. It would be a good idea for you to begin taking St. John's wort soon after you burn yourself as well. This can also assist in the healing process, although the effects of taking St. John's wort internally will not be as profound as those of applying it to the area externally. Even so, it can have a number of different benefits for us and assisting us in overcoming the burn that we experience is only one of those. A combination of the two, both internal and external treatment with St. John's wort should yield you the most benefit.
